Head shave raises funds for WAA in memory of Stuart Morgan

A Pembrokeshire woman has shaved her head to raise donations for the Welsh helicopter charity that tried to save her father.

Emily Morgan, from Narberth, cut off her long hair and shaved her head in August to raise donations for Wales Air Ambulance in memory of her dad, Stuart Morgan, who sadly passed away last year.

Wales Air Ambulance flew to Stuart’s aid, but the air ambulance charity was unable to save him.

In remembrance of her father, Emily decided to shave her head to match her late father’s baldpate, whilst collecting donations for the charity that tried to help him.

Emily said: “It has gone past the year mark of my dad passing away, and I miss him terribly.

“One of the things I miss is stroking his shaved head, so in honour of my dad I thought I’d try raise money for Wales Air Ambulance as an act of remembrance.”

Every year WAA needs to raise £6.5 million to fund its services, with each of the charity’s missions costing around £1,500, funded entirely by the kind donations and support they receive.

Emily aimed to raise £750 for the charity through her sponsored head shave, to help WAA to keep its four helicopters flying across Wales.

Emily said: “Dad sadly didn’t make it onto the air ambulance, but they responded with lightning speed and helped tirelessly.

“Wales Air Ambulance are a phenomenal life line to everyone, especially those in rural areas.”

Since Wales Air Ambulance was launched on St David’s Day in 2001 the charity has completed over 26,000 missions across Wales, and has grown from a single-helicopter service operating from Swansea airport five days a week, to a four-aircraft operation that serves the people of Wales 365 days a year.

Tony Key, Wales Air Ambulance Pembrokeshire Community Coordinator, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Emily for fundraising for us, and she has raised an outstanding amount for WAA.

“We wouldn’t be able to keep our helicopters flying, or continue to grow our service, without the support we receive from the people of Wales.

“Emily’s donation will help to fund a mission, helping us to come to the aid of someone in their hour of need.”
