Two Swansea women are taking on their first ever triathlon to raise donations for Wales Air Ambulance.
Ceri Rees-Coe and Sarah Wedgbury will tackle the UWTSD Swansea Triathlon on Sunday May 28, to fundraise for a charity which is close to their hearts.
Both Ceri and Sarah are keen horse riders and motorcyclists, and have close friends who have been airlifted by Wales Air Ambulance after horse or motorbike accidents.
The Swansea women aren’t regular swimmers, runners or cyclists, but decided to take on the fitness challenge to support WAA.
Ceri said: “Neither of us have swum in over 10 years and never actually run or cycled much before, this is a massive challenge for both of us.
“A 750m swim, 20km bike ride and a 5km run all on the same day seems very daunting to us.
“However, having started training in October 2016 we have given ourselves plenty of time to succeed in our journey, and so help raise valued funds for the Wales Air Ambulance.”
The pair will jump into the water of the Price of Wales Dock in Swansea for a 750m swim, before cycling and running around the city centre course.
By completing the gruelling fitness challenge, the friends hope to raise donations for Wales Air Ambulance through sponsorship collected from family and friends.
Ceri and Sarah aim to raised £2,000 for the Welsh helicopter charity through the triathlon, and have already smashed their fundraising target.
Mark Stevens, Wales Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Ceri and Sarah for taking on their first ever triathlon in aid of us.
“As a charity, we rely on kind donations to fund our operations across Wales, and their fundraising has ready funded more than one lifesaving mission across Wales.
“They have smashed their fundraising target, and hope to do the same on the course!
“We wish them all the best for the race, as their support is keeping our four helicopters flying.”
