Three retained firefighters are walking over 40 miles across Wales, to raise donations to fund emergency helicopter missions.

Adam Fountain, Shaun Rees and Thomas Dando, from Montgomery Fire Station, are walking from Machynlleth to the Anchor to fundraise for Wales Air Ambulance.

The 42-mile walk will be completed entirely in one day, taking the group through the beautiful welsh countryside in aid of the helicopter charity.

Adam said: “We have worked with the Wales Air Ambulance on a number of occasions with fire calls and medical call outs.

“We also recognise the value of their expertise and the importance of the service they provide.”

Each of WAA’s missions cost around £1,500, and every year the charity needs to raise £6.5 million every year to fund its operations.

Mark Stevens, Wales Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager, said: “As a charity, we rely on kind donations and support to fund our services.

“Each of our missions are funded by the support we receive from the people of Wales.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Adam, Shaun and Thomas for fundraising for us, and taking on a challenge in aid of us.

“By walking from Machynlleth to the Anchor near Shropshire, they are helping to fund our missions across the country and are helping to save lives.”
