Mighty Moped Challenge raises donations for Wales Air Ambulance

A motorbike challenge has raised over £500 to help fund lifesaving helicopter missions across Wales.

The Mighty Moped Challenge in July was the fourth event of its kind, collecting funds and travelling through Wales by motorbike to raise donations for Wales Air Ambulance.

The group of bikers rode from the Star Inn at Mamhilad, near Pontypool, to Rhayader to raise donations for the charity’s helicopter missions across Wales.

The Mighty Moped Challenge raised a total of £544 for Wales Air Ambulance, helping the charity raise the £6.5 million needed every year to fund its operations across Wales.

Wales Air Ambulance relies on kind donations to keep its four helicopters flying, with each of the charity’s missions costing around £1,500, funded through the support WAA receives.

The Mighty Moped Challenge collected funds for WAA by completing bucket collections on their journey between Mamhilad and Rhayader.

Wales Air Ambulance was selected as chosen charity for the challenge as the bikers come from Raglan, a rural community that appreciates the importance of access to an air ambulance in an emergency.

Liesel Townley, Wales Air Ambulance Community Coordinator, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the Mighty Moped Challenge in aid of WAA.

“As a charity, we wouldn’t be able to fund our operations if it weren’t for the kind support we receive.

“By raising donations for us, they are helping to save lives across Wales.”
