Brecon Beacon Marathon runner helps to save lives across Wales

An Ystalyfera woman is taking on a marathon through the iconic Brecon Beacons to raise vital donations for lifesaving helicopter missions in Wales.

Kelly Morgan will be tackling the Brecon Beacons Trail Marathon in May, running through the beautiful, challenging landscape to raise funds for Wales Air Ambulance.

The keen runner has always kept fit, but took an interest in off-road running, and is now channeling her passion to help raise charitable funds.

Kelly said: “I got the running bug 2 years ago, and regularly take part in half road and trail marathons - I particularly enjoy trails to take in the beauty which is Wales.

“I choose to run the Brecon Beacons Trail Marathon for Wales Air Ambulance as I have seen the helicopter around the village helping and saving lives.”

Kelly will take on the cross-country running challenge on May 14, tackling the difficult terrain to help raise donations for the Welsh helicopter charity.

Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise £6.5 million every year to run its operations, with each of its lifesaving missions costing around £1,500.

Mark Stevens, Wales Air Ambulance Fundraising Manager, said: “Wales has over 8,000 sq miles of remote countryside, bustling towns and cities, 800 miles of coastline, and vast mountain ranges – including the Brecon Beacons.

“Last year Wales Air Ambulance attended over 42 missions just in the Brecon Beacons, flying our critical care team to the people of Wales in their hour of need.

“The remote nature of the Brecon Beacons and its difficult terrain means that people in need can be difficult to access by road. By taking on the Trail Marathon, Kelly will be helping to fund our missions – including those in the Brecon Beacons.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Kelly for her support. As a charity, we rely on donations and kind support to keep our four helicopters flying across Wales.”
